My mood ring is purple

It means that I have a headache and can't face the work I need to do tomorrow.

If eating ice cream was an exercise, I'd be in tip-top shape

I really enjoy eating ice-cream. In my dreams I would wave a magic wand and turn all those calories into fat-burning negatives!

Antarctica, here I come

I think it would be fun to visit the coldest and least populated continent!

My first plane trip, from Heathrow, London to San Francisco, California

I was only two, so not scared. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip apparently, talking nineteen to the dozen to anyone who would listen!

I'll take a tattoo of a butterfly tattoo – just for a week

My choice of tattoo...

Finished Monarch Butterfly Tattoo

I would love a tattoo of a butterfly as the are so pretty and very ephemeral. One if my friends at university used to use a butterfly as his coded symbol for me in his diary!

Alternatively, I may consider using an eastern oriental religious symbol.

I think I could do without hearing for a year

I would really miss my fix of music, but I would enjoy the feeling of peace. I can always hear plent of lovely music in my head...

Porridge is a cereal suitable for every meal

Oatmeal Porridge with Poached Quince - Richmond Hill Cafe and Larder

It probably isn't a cereal, bit I love it. I love the warmth, and the slightly gooey sweet sticky texture.

Cafe Del Mundo might not be healthy, but it's tasty

They serve absolutely everything you could possibly want! They also are very accommodating and will often undercharge you. Love them!

Have I told you about the time I won nothing.?

I have never won anything. Very sad, I know, but then you have to be in it to win it.

Let me tell you a secret

I could tell you, but then it wouldn't exactly be a secret.

I'll read 'A Short History of Nearly Everything' one day

A lovely big book just waiting to be read! I have really enjoyed all the BB books I have read hereto, but feel guilty about spending time on books not related to teaching philosophy/theology!

Summer is here and the book is calling louder than ever...

My earliest memory...

So Sweet So Girl

I remember wandering around my brother's bedroom with a paper bag of sweets whilst he was at school. I also remember trying to fall asleep on the way to nursery - a two minute drive - as I really wanted to be at home.

A Suitable Boy is long, but it's worth the read

I read this many years ago and absolutely loved it! The story puts you right into the heart and soul of India in an amazing way.

I found it particularly enjoyable because of the reality of it all. Even when tragedy struck life went on as it would in real life. One of the reviews stated that anyone finishing the book would miss the characters as they had spent such a long time with them throughout this lengthy book. I can certainly vouch for the truth of this!

It is a beautiful book, and I can't wait for the sequal.

Requirement #1 for a good day: Friends!

Friends!
Friends play a vital role in making a day good! Family is al important, but all too many times it is an intense on-going relationship whereas friends just like you for who you are with no strings attached!

It's hard to apologize when I don't think I'm wrong

I believe that you shouldn't apologise just because someone else is upset, although I feel this is a female tendency! Only apologise if you have done something wrong!

The importance of holidays.

Everyone enjoys going on holiday. The chance to liberate yourself from daily routine and chores is a huge driving force. Holidays also allow that rare opportunity to 'stop and stare' and therefore to find a bit of peace in the noisy world we often inhabit.
The big question is, where to next?

History of God - Karen Armstrong

What an amazing book. It is one that has changed my understanding and thus also my life.

It was the chapter on mystic understanding of God that really challenged me. I have never been able to read anything by the mystics without feeling that they must be on some kind of trip. I have also never connected deeply with the portrayal of God as a super-person. Karen made me turn my understanding on its head.

She showed me that mystics do not see God as a person. They experience God. The experience of God is God. God is not what is experienced. Well, it made sense to me and still does! It is the difference between God as a noun and God as a verb. God is not an objective person, but a subjective experience.

Look at it like this. People describe God as loving, eternal, good, etc. This does not mean that he is a person who is loving, eternal, good, etc. He is the experience of loving, eternity goodness etc.
As I say, it makes sense to me!

You will not find God by looking for him. Instead He is there when you see him. Next time you feel any deep and lasting connection either through love or goodness, ask yourself whether that is God. The mystics did, and they found him.
